GET TO KNOW ME BETTER
About Me
Stemarciae Bain is a young woman from the beautiful blue waters, sunny weather and good food of New Providence, The Bahamas. She was born and raised in the capital and attended Kingsway Academy from kindergarten to grade 12. She began dancing at what some may consider the late age of seven, when her mother enrolled her into a school which was then known as “Live2Dance”. Via a recommendation from her grandmother’s co-worker, Stemarciae’s frequent request to go to dance school to become a ballerina was finally met. She started with taking only a ballet/jazz class and an acro class. She then started tap, and shortly after found herself enrolled in every style available to her. She was a part of and to this day is the longest standing ‘Orignial Competition Company Member” at her home studio which is now known as “Just Dance Bahamas”. She would attend one competition per year with the team, as it was costly to travel to America for competition and there were not any in The Bahamas. She was always very much supported by her parents, older brother, other family and friends along her journey.
It was always her dream to pursue dance ever since she knew it was a possibility to her. Her dance instructor, Nonny Price and her mentor, former Alvin Ailey dancer Courtney Celeste Spears, opened her eyes to the possibility of a professional career in dance at around the age of 9-10. When Price (American) described her career as a professional dancer, Stemarciae was overjoyed that she could possibly do the same. Furthermore, when Spears (Bahamian/American) visited Nassau with the Ailey II company in 2016, it was solidified proof to Stemarciae that she could achieve her dance dreams professionally as well, as she had seen a fellow Bahamian achieve success in the industry.
Ever since she has been working diligently towards her dream of being a professional dancer whether that be on Broadway, in a company, in tv and film, etc. Growing up in The Bahamas, Stemarciae didn’t have access to the many opportunities and resources that dancers in other places in the world have access to, e.g. weekly conventions, competitions, workshops, summer intensives etc. Therefore, she trained at her local studio hours and hours on end per week and attended a competition once a year and diligently worked to the point in which she’d be accepted to study abroad in college to study dance.
Stemarciae decided to attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) to earn her BFA in Dance Theater and further her training in numerous dance styles, but also get training and experience in singing and acting as well. She will then go on to embark on the professional career and journey she had dreamed of her entire life.
